Mr Sanjiv Manjure is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions. His areas of particular interest are Sports Injuries, Complex and revision Knee and Hip Arthroplasty.

Sanjiv was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Luton and Dunstable University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2005 and has built up a comprehensive Knee and Hip service for the local population. He has also presented internationally and at multiple national meetings on Knee arthroscopy and Computer Navigated Arthroplasty .He lectures at regional, national and international conferences on Knee and Hip orthopaedics and management of Complex Trauma.

His practice is based in the three counties around Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. He has vast experience in his field of expertise and has been practising Orthopaedics from 1991.

Mr Manjure practises evidence based medicine and basis his practice on the ethos that active patient involvement in their treatment is the key to successful outcomes.

Mr Manjure consults close to 700 new patients yearly. He performs more than 500 surgical procedures per year.

Professional Background


Mr Manjure graduated from The M.S. University, Baroda, India in 1990. He underwent a four year postgraduate residency in Orthopaedics, a structured intensive training programme which involved research, publication and also hands-on surgical experience and training. This culminated in a Master’s degree in Orthopaedics (M.S. Orthopaedics)

In the U.K., he underwent Higher Surgical training in the South East Thames Region (Guy’s and St. Thomas’ rotation). During this period, he completed M.Ch (Liverpool), FRCS (Gen Surgery Glasgow) and FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics). He spent a year of advanced surgical training at the Guy’s Hospital London, Knee Unit and furthered his skills in knee sports injuries, revision arthroplasty and complex knee surgery.

Having worked as a Consultant in Medway Hospitals NHS Trust & King’s College Hospital, London prior to his appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, Sanjiv was able to bring many innovative ideas to the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and of special mention is formation of the Hip & Knee Surgery Unit for complex /revision arthroplasty and introduction of computer navigation techniques for knee replacement.

Clinical roles and experience

Sanjiv believes that an important aspect of his role as a consultant involves research, teaching and evidence based clinical management

Mr Manjure is the Clinical Lead for infection control and Thromboprophylaxis, Trauma Network lead for the hospital and Clinical Lead for Community Musculoskeletal Services.

He was the Clinical Director for the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics from 2010 to 2013.

Mr Manjure has been awarded a Clinical Excellence award for the year 2008-2009 and also in 2012-2013 for his contribution to the Luton and Dunstable University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Mr Manjure’s areas of special interest include Sports Injuries of the knee including arthroscopic ACL, reconstruction, cartilage transplantation, primary and revision knee and hip replacements and uni-compartmental knee replacements.

  • Knee Sports Injuries- Arthroscopic Management , Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction, Multi-ligament reconstruction, Cartilage transplantation
  • Knee Arthritis – Re-alignment Osteotomies, Partial and Total Knee Replacements using Computer navigation/patient specific instrumentation, complex and revision (Re-do) knee replacements.

Teaching and Academic interests

A keen interest in academics and teaching drives Mr Manjure to organise several courses which have a clinical relevance.

Mr Manjure is firmly committed to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and considers this an important role as a consultant.

Mr Manjure serves on the Executive Committee of the Society of Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) UK as the Evidence and Literature Promulgation Secretary.

Personal Background

Mr Manjure lives in Bedfordshire with his wife and two children. He has run the Marathon and is an ex-district level 100 metres sprinter. He plays for the South Beds Doctors’ Cricket team. He is a keen squash player and golfer
